Shoes for orthotics are important because after you have spent a lot of money on getting orthotics to correct your foot pain, ankle pain, knee pain or lower back pain problem or condition then it is a waste of money if you cannot correctly accommodate your orthotics in your shoes.

Shoes play an important role in making sure that your orthotics work correctly. It is important that your orthotics are working optimally or else they will not be able to do the job properly of correcting your bad biomechanics and therefore reduce your problem when you walk run or jump.

Orthotics work by interacting with the forces you apply to the ground and the forces that are applied back to you from the ground. If your shoes interfere with this process because they are not designed correctly to work will orthotics then you can actually be causing more problems instead of actually helping a problem that is why it is important to get the correct shoes for your orthotics.

Shoes for orthotics will work properly if you follow these important rules when you are purchasing your new shoes for your orthotics.

1.     Make sure that you have a solid sole on your shoes but that there is enough flexibility were the ball of the foot is in the issue. This is to allow normal function on the front of the foot as you walk.
2.    It is important that you use a shoe that has a lace or strap function so that you can securely tighten your foot into the shoe keeping your foot not only in the shoe but security on the orthotic. If you don’t do this and wear something like a slip on shoe then you will move off the orthotic and it will become ineffective.
3.    Also, it is important that the back part of the shoe is quite stiff. This stiff material is usually made from plastic or stiff leather and is called a heel counter. Its main job is to keep the heel supported in the shoe but also plays an important role in making sure that the orthotic works correctly.

Once you have these three elements in a shoe design it really doesn’t matter about the luck of the shoe. All you should be concerned about for shoes for orthotics is that they allow the orthotics to work correctly.

Shoes for orthotics can be made specifically for the job or they can just be comfort shoes that happened to support the wear of orthotics purely by the fact that they are designed correctly for the job and give great support for your foot when you are wearing insoles.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on shoes for orthotics but it is important that they work together with both your foot in your insoles to provide the optimum correction and support needed for the orthotics to correct the biomechanical deficiencies that you have. Using incorrect shoes for orthotics means that you will not only be wasting your money on the orthotics but also it means that you think that you are correcting your problem when in fact you could be making it worse purely by choosing the wrong shoe.

As orthotics become more popular and the cost of orthotics increases, there are too many people choosing the incorrect shoes for their orthotics and then creating further biomechanical problems that lead to new foot and ankle issues purely by having made the incorrect selection of shoe type to wear.

Shoes for orthotics are also sometimes called comfort shoes. Yes, there are specific brands of shoe that I designed purely to accommodate orthotics but these have a premium price applied to them and the shoe manufacturers understand this and are looking to make extra profit. Comfort shoes at shoes that are wider feeling and have more room in them as well as using better materials to support the foot.

If you cannot afford or find specific brands of shoes for orthotics then a good comfort shoe will do the job effectively.

When you’re going to buy your shoes for orthotics make sure you bring your orthotics with you to the shoe shop. Make sure that the shop assistant does not talk you into just buying a shoe that is a larger size than you would normally take to accommodate your orthotics. Most insoles are designed to utilize space inside the shoe that already exists. There is no need to request a larger size than your normal font size to accommodate your insoles.

It is also important to change your shoes for orthotics on a regular basis. When you notice that there is wear and tear on their heels of your shoes or that the material that is used for the upper part of the shoe has lost its shape than it is really important to replace your shoes for orthotics. If you don’t do this then you will not be getting be full benefit from your orthotics.

Maintaining good support for your foot with your orthotics is just not a matter of looking after your insoles. It is extremely important that you maintain your shoes for orthotics as well. When your footwear loses the ability to support the orthotics then your foot biomechanics will suffer and you will not be getting the full benefit from your insoles.

As you can see, there is a lot more to choosing the correct shoes for orthotics than just looks.

If you are careful and choose a good shoe then you will get the maximum benefit from your orthotics or insoles for years. However, if you do not choose the right shoes for orthotics you will live to regret it. Hopefully, you now understand clearly that is important that for the benefit of your biomechanical problems that choosing the correct and best available shoes for orthotics is in your and your feets benefit in the long run. Remember, a good shoe is not just a good-looking shoe.  Happy shoe hunting.
